Spend some time with the two-volume Book of Lost Tales. My last read was The Book of Lost Tales. Mostly, and thanks to Tolkien, I want to alert the reader to the possibility that the Word of God can be presented in different genres in one book: history, poetry, prophecy, myth . I'd seen some Tolkien's earliest writings already, many of the so-called “Lost Tales” and what was essentially the framework for what would appear in all of his future works, large and small. Christopher Tolkien has done a lot of groundwork in his commentary to the tales collected in these volumes to show a “bridge” between Middle Earth and England. "One marvels anew at the depth, breadth, and persistence of J.R.R. And perhaps even fantasy (avoid the slander directed towards that .. The Book of Lost Tales, Part One (The History of Middle-Earth, #1. The stories work well just as adventure tales but they also have their own history that every now and then you get a sense of and it is as if you can smell the dust of centuries in the pages of the book. Most people take there time to read all three books "The Silmarillion", "The Book of Lost Tales II" and "Unfinished Tales" and try to connect the story Of Tuor and his coming to Gondolin. And I making the Lord of the Rings, I thought of the other attempts to turn this amazing world into a movie and thought, like the bowl of petunias falling to earth in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, "Oh no, not again." Our theater didn't have the volume up so badly. All twelve volumes, all 4,730 pages (not including Indices, Appendices, or Glossaries.) Christopher Tolkien's incredible achievement in literary archaeology, The History of Middle-earth, has been read. The Book of Lost Tales Part One - The History of Middle-Earth, Vol. Back in January of this year I set of The Histories for me.
